Parking Matters conducted a study to analyse current and future parking needs in Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole on the south coast. Recommendations were provided for parking optimisation and future development.

What we did

  • Conducted a Selective Parking Study for BCP FuturePlaces, an urban regeneration company owned by Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole (BCP) Council.
  • Conducted extensive data collection and analysis of approximately 50 car parks and on-street areas.
  • Established a baseline understanding of current parking behaviour.
  • Benchmarked existing parking facilities and tariffs.
  • Analysed current and future parking usage and capacity requirements in town centre locations in line with future parking and mobility trends, to inform a strategic rationalisation of underutilised parking spaces and suggest additional capacity if needed.
  • Guided future development plans while considering the region’s regeneration and growth goals.

Outcome

  • Identified parking sites to retain, surplus sites, and those suitable for redevelopment to guide a strategic rationalisation of underutilised parking spaces
  • Identified sites for potential additional capacity to meet future demand.
  • Provided guidance for future development plans aligned with the region’s regeneration and growth goals.
  • Enabled BCP FuturePlaces to make informed decisions regarding parking management and urban development.
